DearSirOrMadam

Hi, Mr. Jones,

I'm the editor of a new online mag called The OTHER Spokane. I saw the Political Opinions page on your website. I'd love to reprint it in our Political section as a column.

The first issue is due to be released Jan. 1, Y2K and is only about 25% complete, but you can preview it at its temporary site at www.geocities.com/stevstgeo (soon to be www.otherspokane.com).

Hope to hear from you soon.

Stik Mann
Editor, The OTHER Spokane

Mr. Mann,

I've looked at what you have so far and I would be happy to contribute to your new e-zine. I don't know how comfortable I am with having the content of my political opinion page reproduced without knowing the context of that part of your -zine.

Perhaps we should discuss this further. I look forward to hearing from you.

Mr. Jones,

Thank you, I'm glad you want to contribute.

The political section of the mag is a simple democratic exercise: if someone has an opinion, and can say it reasonably well, I want to print it.

If you are concerned that your opinions might appear along with someone who you or I might consider a wacko, then I'm afraid that your apprehensions are well grounded.

I hope to hear from the right, the left, the in-between, and even a few who are off the chart. I hope for intelligent debate, biting responses, heated arguments, pontificating, ranting.

This is what I relish about democracy.

Stik,

Actually I was concerned that you were going to portray my opinions as someone who you consider a wacko.

But you wrote, "I hope to hear from the right, the left, the in-between..."

Very good. Under those circumstances I would be happy to contribute to your -zine.

How shall we proceed?

Mr. Jones,

With your permission, I'd like to publish your Political Opinions as they appear on your website, with the hope that we can get some local responses.

Any time you would like to write something new (whether on a monthly, periodically, sporadically, or a one-time basis) I'd like to publish it.

Stik,
Editor, The OTHER Spokane
